Called in for take out and Ordered beef kabob plate for me and double cheeseburger with everything for the hubby. The service was fast, and the associate who took my call was as kind in person as on the phone.Definitely will go again.♥️-1 ⭐ because my beef wasn't as tender as I'd have preferred.Yve

Why in the hell have I 😔slept on this😴 place? In Mobile there is one and I never stepped foot inside. Judging from the outside and the name don't do it justice. I thought "Purple Onion" ?? what's that? Even though it says Mediterranean food.. it just didnt sound appealing. Well a gentleman interested in my daughter took us out to dinner here. The atmosphere needs tweaking, but the FOOD... 👀, THE FOOD WAS SOOOO GOOD and flavorful. I'm woke😲 now. I 👀 you Purple Onion! I had Gyro Meat plate, daughter n gentleman had Chicken Kabob plate, son had Beef Kabob plate, uncle had Falafal plate and hubs had Gyro wrap. What ever hubs.. you missed out on a plate for a wrap 🤣. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Am I the only one who hasn't ever been to the Purple Cafe, like ever??

Great service the owners are wonderful and the gyro's are the best in alabama hands down.. great experience wonderful ambiance... will definitely be back and bring the whole family.

Ordered the shrimp and chicken kabob. It was delicious! Great outdoor patio with plenty of space to social distance.

They always prepare my gyro with extra sauce and onions just like I ask!

So so so so Good! Loved this spot we found on our trip through Birmingham. Such a hip beautiful spot with a fountain and patio. Food was super super super good and the prices were unbelievably awesome too. My boyfriend tried the beef kabobs meal with greek salad. I got greek chicken wrap. Both were really really good. And its open 24 hours if you need a late munch. Will be back!! Wish they had this in my town

Food always good and consistent. Been coming here since they opened 20 years ago. Never had a bad meal. Homewood location is better than others.

I got the chicken salad wrap which was delicious but it was a little high for just a wrap sandwich.

I visited here from out of town as it was the only restaurant open in my area after 11pm. The food was so fresh, hot and delicious. I had the turkey melt wrap and fries and my husband had the Philly and cheese fries which was good as well. Minus the Philly being a little salty. The prices were very fair and you get a lot of food for the price. I will definitely be eating here again before I return to Ohio. Thank you all kindly for a great dining experience.

If I'm making a trip to Birmingham, you can bet that I'll be at Purple Onion. The staff are very nice, and the food is incredible. As cheap as it is, you would expect much worse. No matter what I eat, I always get the peppermint tea and finish my meal with Baklava.

It was ok . Not as good as I had expected

I've been going to this location for 20+ years now, dating back to my college days. The service can get a little slow at peak times, but otherwise we always have a great experience with both the service and the food.I highly recommend the Chick in a Sack along with some cheese fries. And I always, always, ALWAYS look forward to treating myself to their sweet tea: it is delicious (not your typical sweet tea, so be expecting something a little different). Outdoor seating is available and it is covered along with fans during the hotter times and warmers during the cooler times.

This location is the best of all the Purple Onions I've been too. I just left there picking up Togo food. There was a group of middle aged drunk (or just rude af) couples behind me in line that were just awful but the guy taking orders was super nice to them. I was really impressed with the service. They were packed and still got my food out quickly and with a smile.

Real Mediterranean food, short-order style. Great flavor knowledgeable staff. I had an excellent kafta rolled up tight in a pita so you can eat it while driving. I waited maybe 5 minutes for my order. Open all night, I think.

Fast service and good food

I have always enjoyed this Purple Onion, the atmosphere here is really nice. Outdoor seating areas as well as some indoor tables as well. The staff is friendly and willing to help. The fact that I can get a Gyro or Falafel at the wee hours of the morning with some Mint Tea in Yank or Southern Format to boot. The Tzatziki is not overwhelmed with garlic. Wo people who are just getting into the Mediterranean food style can enjoy all the flavors. Their Baklava is really good, assorted of styles, fresh and on point. I still need to try more items on their menu, but I don't go to a Mediterranean Restaurant and order burgers.... probably not bad, but come on we're not those kinda of peoples are we?

The mint tea is so yummy! Sometimes I just go for the tea. But my go to food here is the Philly and the ranch fries! Have only tried the Philly and the gyro here but I'm pretty sure anything you get will be good.

Great, healthy food, we were stuffed. Wonderful mint tea. And I was able to get my hotel key-card back, I had lost it.

Always friendly and ALL food is made to order, fresh and hot. I love The Purple Onion... 4 stars and not 5 because the steak is usually overcooked and over seasoned if not requested custom made

OMG, The Purple Onion is soooo awesome! We were looking for a place that was open late so we wouldn’t be walking in right before they close, used Google, and found this place, opened late with all the great reviews too. I had the beef kabobs and my hubby had a steak baked potato with a side of grilled mushrooms....y’all, it was delicious!! They were very quick and it was made fresh! Don’t underestimate it from how it looks on the outside; it will definitely surprise you!

The Loaded Steak Potato and Honey BBQ Wings are delicious. I even got cheese on my fries. They are open late night and only about 10 mins away from UAB.

Always great food and great service. I tend to dring water most every place I eat as well as at home but I cannot resist the mint sweet tea, it is so refreshing!

The one place beside Moms food have to have before I leave Birmingham, the gyro stuffed potatoes are my favorite. Fast service all the time and 24/7 can't beat that.

The food was Great! I had the gyro comb with fries. I also had the mushrooms. I always get them when I can. My Husband had a Hamburger and fries. He enjoyed it.!!!!!

Man, i been there n got that baker combo. that boy was big n sooo good! i recommend going, the dude on register knows what’s good. just ask! super friendly n fast service!! love it
